awaBerry 2.0 is here — and it is the most significant release in the company's history. At its heart is a brand new framework: the awaBerry Smart Automation Platform, now part of awaBerry Device Automation. Alongside it, version 2.0 delivers scheduling support for remote desktop and web-to-local connections, and a fundamental improvement to connection speed that brings device access to near-real-time performance.

The Smart Automation Platform

The Smart Automation Framework is the answer to a question we have been asked since the very first version of awaBerry: can you not just make it run things automatically? The answer is now yes — and the approach is more powerful than a simple task runner.

The framework uses the Google Gemini CLI to translate plain-English instructions into executable automation scripts. You describe what you want to happen — scrape a website, process files, run a data pipeline, trigger a build — and the framework generates the logic to make it happen, directly on your device. Critically, AI tokens are spent exactly once at authoring time. Every subsequent scheduled or triggered execution runs the generated script at zero token cost.

This means you can automate complex, multi-step workflows across any registered device — cloud servers, local machines, edge nodes, SoC hardware — without writing a line of code and without paying for AI inference on every run.

Scheduling for Remote Desktop and Web-to-Local

Version 2.0 also brings scheduling support to two of awaBerry's most-used connection types. You can now define time-based schedules to automatically activate remote desktop (VNC/RDP) and web-to-local port forwarding sessions on your devices. This is especially useful for automated workflows that depend on visual interfaces or locally-running services being available at a defined time — without requiring a person to initiate the connection manually.

Near-Real-Time Connection Speed

Connections to registered devices are now dramatically faster. Infrastructure improvements in version 2.0 reduce the time from "connect" to "ready" to near-real-time. Whether you are opening a web terminal, launching a remote desktop session, or establishing a web-to-local tunnel, the wait is effectively gone.

A Word From Andreas

With the new Smart Automation Platform, we are now able to offer a powerful and flexible framework for automating tasks on connected devices. The scheduling functionality allows users to automate routine tasks and ensure that their devices are always up to date and secure. The improved connection speed means that users can access their devices faster than ever before, making it easier to manage and maintain them remotely.
