Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about setting up devices, staying safe, supported boards and cost. Can't find your answer? Reach the team via the contact form.

What is awaBerry?

awaBerry is a friendly app for families and home makers. It makes it easy to set up a Raspberry Pi (or a similar little computer) without a screen or cables, and then reach it from your phone or laptop wherever you are — to see the screen, browse files, use a terminal and set up simple automation.

What does "headless setup" mean?

"Headless" just means no monitor and no keyboard. awaBerry builds you a personal installer, you write it to the SD card, and the board comes online all by itself when you power it up. See Headless setup.

Which boards and devices work with it?

Raspberry Pi and many other single-board computers, plus the desktops and laptops you already own at home. You can use awaBerry from iPhone, iPad, Mac, Android, Windows, Linux and the web.

Do I need to open ports or set up a VPN?

No. awaBerry uses an encrypted connection with no open ports and no VPN to configure. Your devices connect outward only, so nothing is exposed to the internet. See Remote access for how it works.

Is it safe to open my devices from outside my home?

Yes. Your router stays closed, access is tied to your account with two-factor sign-in, and sensitive data is encrypted end to end — so there's nothing for strangers to find and only you can get in.

Can my devices do jobs on their own?

Yes. Your little computers can run everyday jobs on a schedule and keep an eye on the house, all within limits you set. See Let your devices do the work.

Can I share access with friends or family?

Yes. Invite someone by their own awaBerry account — no SSH keys or passwords to swap — and switch it off whenever you like. See Share access with friends.

How much does it cost?

awaBerry is free for home use. When you're ready for more power, the grown-up edition — Anywhere AI — is one click away. You can get the app here.
