Headless Setup: Create a bespoke installer for a system on a chip devices (Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, Banana Pi, ...)

https://youtu.be/bQLT4PPjGTM
  • Login app.awaberry.com and click on "Add new device".

  • Click on "New device" and "Create bespoke installer for my device".

  • As device type select "System on a chip"

You are asked to select your system on a chip device, use the autocomplete to find your device. Today, I am using a Banana Pi M2 Zero and selected it from the list.

The next step is important - for headless device setup via WIFI, select "via wifi" as internet access and ensure to correctly enter the credentials of the WIFI to which the device should connect to.

Select the configuration, for example the operating system and if it should be a minimal version or have a desktop and press continue.

awaBerry confirms your setup and starts the creation of your bespoke image - which usually takes some minutes to complete.

After some minutes, your bespoke installer is available for download. You will also receive an email once the creation is done.

Click on download installer to start the download. You may also download the licence file. The file is stored in your local download folder.

For writing the installer to a SD Card, I recommend using the tool balenaEtcher. Download for MAC, Windows or Linux at Download balenaEtcher

If you device has a slot for a SD-Card, insert there a SD-Card, otherwise use an adapter via a USB-Port.

From your download folder, select the downloaded awaberry image file. As target select your SD-Card and start the process by clicking flash.

After some minutes the SD-Card writing process is done and indicated with a success message. Remove the SD-Card from your computer

Insert the SD Card into your system on a chip device and connect it with a power cable. Usually, this is an USB cable.

Let your system on a chip device boot.

It will connect with your defined wifi credentials to the internet and indicate the successful connection. You will receive an email.

Thats it! Your device is online and you may now connect to it via a web-browser.
